Mercurial, creative, irreverent and romantic – the Talmudic tale never ceases to amaze, baffle and inspire modern readers.
Join us for a 4-part class on Talmudic storytelling with renowned Jewish literature professor Ruby Namdar. We'll study some of the major anthems of aggadah (Talmudic narrative) as well as a few lesser known ones.
We will savor the unique artistry of Talmudic storytelling, use it as a trigger to explore our own notions of what Jewish text is supposed to look like and imagine very different ways of making Jewish meaning out of our ancient treasure-trove of narratives.
The class begins Monday November 27 at 5 pm ET and runs on the following Mondays: December 4, December 11, and December 18. Live participation is encouraged, but all class recordings will be available to registrants.
This course is open to all levels and experiences in both Jewish learning and writing. No previous knowledge of Hebrew, Aramaic or Jewish text is necessary.
What you'll get from this course:
- Live sessions and interaction opportunities with one of the most important voices in Jewish literature today
- Accessible Jewish texts to provoke your imagination
- A community to offer insights and support

-
