Where does one start when learning about Maimonides?
The 12th century scholar was not only one of history’s most revered Torah commentators — he was an astronomer and a physician, a pioneer who also studied Islamic scientists and philosophers. He sought to fuse ancient Greek philosophy with Jewish thought, writing a seminal work aptly titled “The Guide to the Perplexed.” He eventually served as the personal doctor for the sultan Saladin and published thoughts about health and anatomy.
There’s a lot to tackle. Thankfully, in this new class from My Jewish Learning, you can get the perfect start with one of the world’s leading Maimonides scholars: Vanderbilt University Prof. Lenn Goodman.
Over the course of six weeks, Prof. Goodman will discuss a range of topics Maimonides covered in his writings, from law to prophecy to religion. He’ll also delve into Maimonides’ legacy, and how he has influenced modern philosophy and science.
Each hour-long class session is held on Zoom and recorded, so you can re-watch it anytime.
Whether you have barely heard of Maimonides or are a seasoned scholar of his work, we know that this course will set you on a new path of enriching Jewish learning.
Purchases of this course are non-refundable.
